Kerala was famous for its trading activities and is famous by keeping up the same trading tradition. The phoenicians were the pioneers in sea trade with Kerala in 1000 B.C.
KOCHI (alson know as COCHIN, Queen of Arabian Sea) which is the Business Capital of Kerala, where most of the Public Sector and Private Sector Industrial Units are established in various Industrial belt of the Ernakulam Dist apart from the Coir products and handicrafts from Alappuzha which are received well both in India and abroad.
There are also exclusive Export Processing Zones, Tehnoparks in different cities making way for development of Information Technology as well. The major infrastructure developmental activities that are going to be implemented like the SEA PORT – AIRPORT ROAD, Asia’s biggest Inter-transshipment Container Terminal at Vallarpadam in Kochi will pave way for greater business development in this part of the State.
The opening up of economy and introduction of Public Private participation in mega projects together with the Vision Statement of the Government of Kerala has paved way for attracting investments by the Non Resident Indians (NRIs), more particularly, the Non Resident Keralites (NRKs) in this State especially in the business capital - Cochin.
